Taylor's Vinha Velha Vintage port 2007
Wine Spectator:
TAYLOR FLADGATE Vintage Port Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha 2007.
This is the Port of the vintage. Blackberry and cassis on the nose. Very perfumed and fruity. Some mineral and wet earth underneath. Full-bodied, medium sweet and very chewy, with fabulous tannins and a big mouthfeel. Racy and powerful. —J.S.

2007 Cask Sample Vintage Port Notes © Michael Schuster 8th May 2009 Tasted 6th May 2009, Somerset House, London:
Deep purple; very fine, dense nose of licorice, marked minerality, ripe black fruit; beautifully balanced and defined, taut, concentrated, very firmly but very finely tannic wine with the characteristic restraint and finesse of the Vargellas vineyard.
Long, linear, gently sinewy port, not that big (less sweet and rich than Taylor itself for example), but with a wonderful definition, clarity of flavour, terroir complexity, and firm, fine, long term tannin; finished off with splendid length, comprising both subtle fruit and a marked mineral scent - that Vargellas vineyard hallmark.
Elegance and class, presence and persistence rather than sheer strength or power, partly a function of the year. Restrained density, a very complete vintage port, and a wine of a different order in the context of the year.
What you have here is a density of aromas that add great resonance to the fruit core, and that is what makes it so special.
A really beautiful combination of freshly fragrant fruit, and a mouthcoating suffusion of minerally, terroir scent.
Very ‘particular’ in Pepys’s Haut Brion sense!
