2003 - Very wet winter and spring were followed by a warm weather, specially in August when temperatures reached unusual levels.
Harvest began in the first half of September, with the grapes showing a healthy state, high concentration and sweetness but a relatively low acidity. Produced quantities were remarkable; in general, quality was most satisfactory and, in many cases, of a high level.

The traditional varieties of the Douro Region for red Ports, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz.

In 'lagares' - old open tanks made of granite where the grapes are still trodden by feet. Fermentation was interrupted through the addition of grape brandy in order to perserve a certain degree of natural sweetness.

In Wiese & Krohn's cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the Atlantic coast, under the control of the Port and Douro Wines Institute.
Bottled in 2005 (19.700 bottles). Unfined and unfiltered.

Fixed acidity +/- 4.13 g/l (tartaric acid)
pH +/- 3.7
Residual sugar +/- 94 g/l

Impressive black colour. Concentrated aroma's of ripe fruit. Full-bodied and fleshy. Well balanced, ripe tannins. Long, sweet, finish.

Room temperature.


Combine this Vintage with Steak au Poivre or take it after meal with cheese, tarts, pies, cakes and berries.
