Taylor’s has taken the decision to bottle 2004 single quinta vintage ports from Quinta de Vargellas. Additionally a small quantity of the very rare Quinta de Vargellas ‘Vinha Velha’ vintage port, drawn from a selection of the oldest vines on the property, will also be released. These wines will be available for shipment from late Autumn and customers interested in acquiring some of these wines on release should contact their local Taylor’s distributor or importer for an allocation.
Taylor’s managing director Adrian Bridge commented: The 2004 vintage ports are the result of a relatively cool growing season but a very warm and dry harvest. This was a year in which the unique character of each vineyard came through clearly in the individual wines, hence our decision to bottle single quinta vintage ports. He added: Remarkably, in a year of low yields across the region, the production of the oldest vines at Vargellas was slightly above the previous year.
This underscores the extraodinary vigour of the Vinha Velha vineyard.
