Smaak:
Rijke, honingachtige fruittonen in de smaak.
Goede zuren. Diepte en karakter.
Defined by altitude, Orange is one of Australia's highest and coolest
wine
regions starting at 600 metres above sea level. The name Climbing
is an
active reference to our high altitude vineyard and our continual
quest for
greater achievement.
Winemaking notes:
The fruit was pressed straight to vat, cold settled for 3 days and
racked before inoculating with several yeast strains. After a cool
fermentation, the wine remained on lees, which were stirred regularly
until early July.
The pinot gris was then racked, cold stabilised and casein fined
prior to bottling in late August 2007.
Tasting notes:
Pinot gris has huge potential in Orange, where the high elevation
and resultant cool climate gives the fruit power and zest that perfectly
suits the variety.
Winemaker Debbie Lauritz says of the wine “this wine shows
the subtle salmon colours that are characteristic of the variety,
especially when made in a more Alsatian style. It has great fruit
depth and a full body, with honey notes and bright fruit that nicely
balances the natural acidity of the variety. It is a style to drink
now.
It is a perfect accompaniment for dishes such as seafood, sushi,
or wild mushroom risotto.”
Wijngaard
International Design Awards in Londen.
In the press:
"This estate grown wine from Orange is very neatly put
together. The succulence of the pears really gets you in and then
the orange blossom, musk and melon and lycees all keep your attention.
A complex set of aromas off the nose and delivered onto the palate
with a soft smooth lively acidity – the smooth finish providing
a delicious drinking experience. Try this with lamb keftas. 90/100"

"People regularly admit to buying a wine solely on the appeal of the label. And why not. If a producer is willing to put some love into the packaging, imagine the amount of love that has gone into the product...[Climbing is] one of my favourites...An award winning label representing daring and skill...The wine: delicious."
- Steven Powell, 'b Refreshed', b Magazine, 25th March 2008
"Sometimes winemakers give a little skin contact to their pinot gris, giving some peachy colour and aromatic complexity. This wine shows the benefits with some youthful pear drop fruit while the palate is generous and creamy on the finish."
- 'Drinks with Angus Hughson', 'Simply Food', Daily Telegraph, 5th March 2008
"...a drop that has great ripe pear and floral aromas and a beautiful fruit driven intensity with zesty mineral acidity. This is a good value wine to enjoy with spicy Asian dishes, duck, strong cheeses or salmon with lemon."
- 'Wine with David Ellis', North Shore Times, 8th February 2008
"This is a pinot gris that really delivers on its varietal promise. It's not grigio-like...it's emphatically gris: spicy, even beady aromas lead to a ripe, full, apricot-flavoured dry white."
- Gourmet Traveller, March 2008
