30 months in French and American oak. It reveals beautiful, nearly
ethereal aromatics from its extended stay in barrel and bottle.

as it is now, it still has the balance and structure for continued
evolution.

The 2004 Reserva 7 Vinas is a worthy successor to the
2001 reviewed in Issue 183. It is a blend of 55% Tempranillo,
15% Graciano, and 15% Garnacha, with the balance Mazuelo, Malvasia,
White Garnacha, and Viura. The wine was aged in oak for 3 years,
American for the Garnacha and French for the rest. The final blend
was then aged in a 10,000-liter foudre for an additional 18 months.
Dark ruby-colored, it displays classic Rioja aromas of cedar,
damp earth, leather, spice box, black cherry, and blackberry.
Smooth-textured, ripe, and concentrated, this lengthy effort has
the structure to evolve for 3-4 years. It can be enjoyed now but
will still be singing through at least 2024.

Robijnrode wijn met een lichtviolet gekleurde rand. Aroma's van rijp, rood fruit, kruidig en droptonen. Elegant in de mond, met aangename vanille tonen, een goede balans en harmonieuze afdronk.
Streek
Rioja is het eerste gebied in Spanje welke in 1925 een D.O. status verwierf. In 1991 is deze status verhoogd naar D.O.C. en dit is tot op heden ook de enige regio met deze status. Al tweeduizend jaar geleden bestond er in het Riojadistrict een wijnbouwcultuur, zoals ook is bewezen door talrijke archeologische overblijfselen van persen en wijnkelders uit de Romeinse tijd. Deze cultuur zette zich tijdens de Middeleeuwen onder de bescherming van de kloosters voort. Gonzalo de Berceo, de eerste dichter die in het Spaans schreef, roemde in het klooster van San Milan de la Cogolla de eigenschappen van Riojawijn in zijn gedichten
Elegante rode wijn met een goede balans tussen houtrijping en fruit uit de Rioja!
