Octomore started out as a late night “What if?” idea after a few drams: what if we distilled the most heavily peated barley humanly possible – in our unique stills.
What would the result be?
William Harvey, in order to make the purest spirit possible, designed the tall, narrow-necked Bruichladdich stills to be the very antithesis of Islay stills that existed in 1881.

Our equation is therefore simple:
“massive peat + Bruichladdich elegance =
awesome spirit”.

Now in only it’s fourth annual release, this controversial spirit has already become legend. An intrinsic distillation from barley to bottle, the new cult Islay whisky brings a whole new dimension to peated whisky: all the heady, pure peat smoke aromas - yet free from iodine & medicinal flavours.

A uniquely slow, trickle distillation (condensers were not even needed) gives a soft textured spirit that belies its youthful age. We thought it churlish not to up the anti and raise the bar to an eye.
